The Dead Landz is a “live action” zombie apocalypse simulation. Some may call it a LARP. Think of it as putting yourself into the world of “The Walking Dead” but with zombie actors and fake weapons (just so no one dies for real). The event takes place on a large scale private property that can accommodate hundreds of players and zombies at a time.

The goal of the game is to either “escape” from the venue, or to simply survive until the end. It is completely up to the player. You will enter the venue with nothing but the clothes on your back, and will search for water, food, supplies, and weapons needed to survive the day.

Once you enter the venue, you will Hide, Run, Fight, and Survive against a horde of the undead, other survivors, forces of evil, and nature.

The intent and purpose of the Edmonton Peace Festival is to bring together Edmontonians of all backgrounds to reflect on and celebrate peace. The Peace Festival aims to foster a city-wide promotion of peace, unity, and human rights. It runs from September 21st, the International Day of Peace, until October 2nd, the International Day of Non-Violence.

The Edmonton Peace Festival truly is a festival "by the people, for the people". It is our hope that the Peace Festival will contribute to the creation of a culture of peace in our city. We encourage all Edmontonians to join in the Peace Festival by developing ideas and actions for making our city a more inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.

The Festival provides an opportunity for energizing peace - it is an opportunity to think critically about what peace means at home and abroad; to connect Edmonton-based individuals and groups who are committed to advancing peace; to explore efforts to advance peace, both locally and globally; to work together in fostering inclusive communities to uphold the dignity of all; and to celebrate our common humanity.

Ways in which organizations and individuals can become involved:

• Host a Peace Festival event – get Edmontonians thinking about peace by hosting a speaker, film, artist, workshop, dialogue, performance, exhibition, peace walk, interactive activity, to name a few possibilities.Register your event here: http://www.edmontonpeacefestival.org/#!event-proposal-form/te5mz

• Promote The Edmonton Peace Festival through social media posts, newsletters or bulletins, posters, word-of-mouth etc.

• Attend Peace Festival events and bring information about your organization, programs, services and/or campaigns to share with participants.http://www.edmontonpeacefestival.org/#!schedule-of-events/cq53

The Provincial Archives is pleased to host Home Movie Day as part of an international celebration of amateur films and filmmaking held annually at many venues worldwide.

The Provincial Archives of Alberta invites individuals and families to share their own home movies, and to see other films in turn. It's a chance to rediscover your films, learn how to care for them so that they can be enjoyed for years to come, and discuss their place in the archival record. Meet with Conservators and Archivists and have your films inspected. Bring your treasured 8mm, Super 8mm, and 16mm formats to share!

This is a free event.

The Provincial Archives of Alberta (PAA) preserves the collective memory of Alberta and contributes to the protection of Albertans' rights and sense of identity.

It is the private records of everyday life that can be the most valuable to historians and archivists seeking to understand the history of a community. Ordinary citizens are at the heart of a community’s culture, and their personal stories reflect and illuminate a society’s values, personality and aspirations. To understand a community, you must first understand the individuals within it; private records shed light not only on personal experiences but also on the social, political, economic, religious and cultural life of the province of Alberta.

The Provincial Archives of Alberta encourages the donation of private collections as a way of creating an enduring memory of ordinary life in our province. Private collections held by the Archives have been used by academics in research and history books while other have inspired creative works like plays and books, extending the reach and understanding of Alberta’s history and culture to new audiences.

Each year, the national Toque Campaign sees hundreds of volunteers and supporters sell toques across the country, with proceeds benefiting Partner Agencies working directly with people experiencing homelessness.

Since 1997, the annual Toque Campaign has supported over 180 community agencies across Canada, raising more than $7 million to date in support of long-term solutions to homelessness.

Volunteers will be stationed around Edmonton selling Toques, Mittens, Socks and Ball Caps with funds going towards ending youth homelessness in our city!

Join the National Black Coalition of Canada Society (NBCC- Edmonton) as they honour Black History Month and celebrate a rich, diverse cultural heritage. Officially recognized in December 1995 by the House of Commons, Black History Month educates and brings attention to the positive contributions of black people in Canada: past & present.

NBCC-Edmonton's 31st Annual Black Gospel Concert on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 7:00 PM showcases the best gospel music in the city! Gospel music is so closely tied to the past achievements and successes of black people in North America. Back in the darkest days of American Black history, when it seemed there was no hope for those enduring hardship and slavery, gospel music provided hope.
