Downtown
Edmonton 1 |
Edmonton is a city that offers
a wide variety of arts, culture, activities and attractions, however these aren't
the only draw for guests in the city. As the capital of Alberta,
Edmonton is home to the Provincial
Legislature, ensuring a steady stream of business travellers and politicians
to the city. Consequently, the list of business accommodations is comprehensive,
with many hotels providing a business centre with Internet access, fax service
and more. On the other end of the spectrum, Edmonton has also earned the nickname
of “Festival City”, an homage to the ubiquity of entertainment and celebrations
in the city. Locating an accommodation that is convenient to a planned itinerary
is an integral part of an enjoyable trip, be it a business or a leisure visit.
Edmonton offers lodging suited to both business trips and vacations with hotels
and motels to suit a variety of budgets.
In the following article,
WorldWeb.com Travel Guide
offers suggestions for different types of lodging in the Edmonton area, giving
travellers a number of options based on proximity to attractions and other Edmonton
amenities.

Parliament Buildings
Overlooking the river valley
in Edmonton, Alberta's Legislature is an impressive structure built between
1907 and 1913. Free tours are offered daily for those interested in exploring
this example of Beaux-Arts architecture. Accommodation near the legislature
consists of extended stay suites in addition to regular hotel rooms.
Commonwealth Stadium
Commonwealth
Stadium is the home turf of the Edmonton
Eskimos, the local Canadian Football League (CFL) team. This stadium
is the largest in Canada to still feature natural grass, which allows it to
double as a venue for international soccer tournaments. Differing slightly in
terms of rules from the National Football League in the United
States, the CFL is popular with Canadian sports fans and those attending
a game can expect painted faces, pom-poms and an abundance of cheering. Lodging
in the immediate area is sparse, however there are some businesses that offer
bus service to and from the games. Public transit will also deposit fans to
the stadium.
