Edmonton Shopping
• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide to Shopping in Edmonton, Alberta.
Shopping in Edmonton
The city of Edmonton brings a diverse mix of shopping experiences to Alberta ranging from Canada's largest shopping mall to artsy neighbourhoods. The province's capital city is great place to enjoy a dose of retail therapy, no matter one's particular shopping style, whether it be funky boutiques or designer stores.
SHOPPING MALLS
It's hard to mention Edmonton's shopping scene without singling out West Edmonton Mall. Housing more than 800 stores and services, this shopping and entertainment complex is the country's largest shopping mall. However, visitors don't have to be shopaholics to truly appreciate its magnificence. Along with shops and restaurants, the mall also boasts its own Chinatown, a theme park, a tropical indoor water park, an ice rink and sea lion shows.
Although West Edmonton Mall offers enormous shopping possibilities, Edmonton also has a multitude of other malls worth visiting. In the city's downtown core shoppers will find the large Edmonton City Centre, the designer-packed Commerce Place and the upscale Manulife Place. The busy Kingsway Mall and Southgate Centre are popular destinations outside of the downtown area.
BIG-BOX SHOPPING
For spenders who like to shop big-box style, South Edmonton Common is definitely worth a visit. South Edmonton Common is one of the largest retail power centres in Canada and includes everything from clothing stores to home decor centres. Once the area is completely finished, massive South Edmonton Common's shops should span over 320 acres (129 ha). Wal-Mart Super Centre, Home Depot, Ikea, Future Shop and Staples are just a few of the stores that can be found at this big-box shopping centre. In addition to large brand-name stores, South Edmonton Common also has tantalizing restaurants spread throughout.
