Edmonton and its surrounding communities draw a diverse flock of visitors to the area and an impressive line-up of accommodations offer choice pillows on which visitors can lay their heads. Provincial politicians can find business-class suites in downtown Edmonton, families and shopping buffs can enjoy hotels with themed rooms and waterslides in West Edmonton, oil executives can stay close to corporate offices in Fort Saskatchewan, air travellers can stop off in Leduc and Nisku, and camping enthusiasts can find a plethora of sites just minutes from the city or farther away in Strathcona County and the summer resort village of Seba Beach.
EDMONTON
Edmonton itself boasts more than 10,000 hotel rooms for visitors of all types. Most of Edmonton's top hotels are situated in the downtown core and cater to a healthy mix of art enthusiasts, politicians and business travellers. Three hostels in the city centre offer budget accommodation to backpackers and festival-goers, while visitors preferring something more personal can stay at several distinctive guesthouses and bed and breakfasts (B&Bs) close to downtown.
West of the city centre, chain hotels and budget motels accommodate the huge number of shoppers that come to Edmonton’s world-famous and sprawling West Edmonton Mall, while south of downtown, chain-brand hotels are concentrated along Gateway Boulevard (an extension of Highway 2 from Calgary).
SOUTH OF THE CITY: LEDUC & DEVON
Farther south along Highway 2, the towns of Leduc and Nisku are situated near Edmonton International Airport. Both communities also have large oil and gas economies, meaning accommodation here comes largely in the form of nationally recognised hotels and conference centres, offering airport shuttles, business services and lists of amenities.
